Week 13

1. Fingerprints have formed on your baby's tiny fingertips
2.Baby's veins and organs are clearly visible through the still-thin skin, there is not fat that is why you can see through the skin.
3. Baby's body is starting to catch up with the head — which makes up just a third of the body size now.
4. If the baby is a girl, she now has more than 2 million eggs in her ovaries.
5. The vocal cords are well under construction
6. Because baby can move arms and legs in a jerky fashion, baby may be able to get its thumb into its mouth.
7. You may feel some abdominal pain during week 13 of pregnancy as the ligaments that hold up your uterus stretch to accommodate it as it grows. This is called "round ligament pain." This is very normal and typically associated with stretching necessary for your uterus to grow. (oh yeah, I am having this)
8. Baby's tiny pancreas is working hard to produce insulin. This will help your baby regulate blood sugar levels in the months and years following delivery.
9.  Tiny ribs might be visible.
10. Your baby's circulatory system helps clear toxins from the body.
11. The trachea, lungs, stomach, liver, pancreas, and intestines are developing into their final functioning form.
12. The arms and legs are lengthening this week, and you're baby's muscle control is developing.
13. Baby's toes have separated into individual digits, and they're all the same length. The joints in baby's ankles have matured.
14. Baby's brain is maturing. The right and left hemispheres are beginning to connect. As the brain develops further baby will get more control over movements. In only ten weeks from now, baby's brain will be fully developed.

What happened at my second appt?

Well.... First off we got to the see the baby (by we I mean my mom, my sister Alisyn, and I)! What a little mover this kid is! It was so fun to watch baby kick and move those little hands and even flip sides completely! Alisyn was amazed that I couldn't feel anything, with all the action going on inside. The tech was very good, she explained everything we were looking at. The brain looked great! The tummy (which you can see in the pictures, the little black spot) is full of amniotic fluid, which means baby is swallowing! You could also see the bladder had fluid in it, again good because that means baby's kidneys are working! We got to hear the heart again, 157 beats per minute.

When we first got in there the ultra sound tech said that there was a possibility she could tell what the baby's sex was, I told her I don't want to know the baby's sex. She then told us ok, when parents tell me they don't want to know I try to avoid looking, so that I don't know and accidentally slip. About half way through the ultra sound the tech says, "ok, I know what the baby is. I was trying not to see it, but you could." Then she asked me what I think it is, I told her I think it is a boy. Her response was more than 80% of mom's know the gender... again we will see. My mom also thinks she saw boy parts, but only time will tell. :)

It was a great ultrasound. My weight has stayed the same, good. The only thing that was not tip-top was that my blood pressure is starting to "creep up." So no salty snacks for me! Keep up that exercise and drinking lots of water! But needless to say it was a great appointment and again can't wait until I can see this little one again! :)

Week 12

Ok, so here we are at week 12 :) YAY! This is still a secret from most of the world; only a few people know, but come Thursday (after my doctors appointment) we will be spreading the news!

But to kick off week 12 I figured we needed to list 12 exciting things happening this week for our baby!

1. Baby's intestines, which have grown so fast that they protrude into the umbilical cord, will start to move into the abdominal cavity about now, and the kidneys will begin excreting urine into the bladder.

2. Meanwhile, nerve cells are multiplying rapidly, and in your baby's brain, synapses are forming furiously.

3. At around 12 weeks the placenta has achieved its final shape and takes over from the yolk sac to become the baby’s life support system. The placenta is much larger than the baby at this stage.

4.  Baby's facial features continue to become more defined, particularly the nose and chin..

5. Morning sickness is starting to fade!

6. The uterus is too large to remain completely in your pelvis. You might be able to feel your uterus above your pubic bone. (I have a little bump, looks like I gained 5 pounds in my uterus, oh wait....)

7. Baby is almost 3 inches long. That's about the length of a plum.

8. The most dramatic development this week: reflexes.

9. The pituitary gland (at the base of the brain) has started producing the hormones that'll enable him (or her) to make babies of his (or her) own in a couple of decades or so.

10. Most of baby's systems are in place, though there's still plenty of maturing to do.

11. The baby's digestive system is capable of making contractions that push food through the bowels and is also able to absorb sugar.

12. Only 28 weeks left... haha!

BOY or GIRL!!!!

You can vote at whatever time you would like! I already have my suspicions, but only time will tell. So please vote just for fun!

 BUT FIRST....
So I finally uploaded some pictures from my camera I had to add the picture of the all famous at home pregnancy test!
After the 2 minutes I took a look and realizing one line was noticeably faded was like,"Dang it! I hate these things they are so hard to read!" But then I realized the super light line was the one that should be there no matter what, and the dark one only showed if it was positive!

I also have been muscle tested by my dad to find out the gender, Result.... BOY! For those who don't know its a technique called Applied Kinesiology, it is a pretty neat tool that basically provides feedback on the functional status of the body, evaluating structural, chemical and mental aspects of health through manual muscle testing. Its one of those things you almost have to see to believe.

I also took a test (mostly for fun, its not 100% accurate) called Intelligender. You may have seen these, but its supposed to tell you the gender of the baby. I have posted pictures and will let you all be the judge of the results. I think they are pretty clear.
So basically you pee in a cup and then add it to this container that has some mineral things in the bottom that dissolve, Wait 5 minutes and then you match the color your urine has turned to the label for GIRL or BOY.

I don't know.... we will see!

My First Doctors Appointment

SO I didn't post this earlier, but thought that it was a definite must have on here! On August 17th, 2011 (My sister Alisyn's birthday) I went in to my first doctors appointment. I was really nervous, because I was unsure of how things were going, when in the world this could have happened, etc. According to my last menstrual cycle I would have been at 20 weeks, I knew that was not the case.

I went in to Dr. Rana's office and she was and her staff were very nice and made me feel comfortable right away. She wanted to take a look at everything since I was due for my annual exam anyway and then said ok, lets do an ultra sound and find out how big this baby is. This is what we saw....
Yay! you can see the sac with the yolk and BABY Tieman inside :) I know its just a little fuzz on the screen, but you could see a little flutter. Dr. Rana said that may be the heart, but it is definitely blood flow, lets see if we can hear the heart beat! I held my breath. Sure enough I could hear the MOST INCREDIBLE sound! My baby's heart! It was the most beautiful thing, I started to cry a little. I was so amazed! Fetal heart rate was 167 beat per minute!

The rest of the day I was walking on clouds! So again I am so excited to get to see this little one again and hear his/her heartbeat! :) Hopefully baby will cooperate!

Can't Wait!

Next appointment is in 9 days! I will be almost 13 weeks along (Gestational age of baby will be almost 11 weeks). But it has been going by so slow! Can't wait to see how this little guy or gal is doing!!!! Mom and (Aunt) Alisyn are coming along since Josh is out of town and will be until 1/2 way through the pregnancy! What the heck?!?!?! Guys think they can just stick you will all the hard work of growing another person and then not be around to listen to you complain and give you back rubs :) Just Kidding Josh! I love you! Thank you for your hard work and for being so good to me, even when you are far away! And don't worry that is not my belly ... yet!

I am super excited though! And can't wait to tell the rest of the family! Its been so hard, but I waiting is definitely what I feel most comfortable with! :) Only 1 1/2 more weeks until I tell all of them. Can't hardly wait!

Week 11

Your baby continues to grow and is now approximately the size of a large lime! The crown-to-rump length of your developing child is 1.75 to 2.4 inches. The weight of the fetus is approximately 8 grams at this point. The growth of your baby is phenomenal now and your babys length will double in the next three weeks. The head is grossly out of proportion and is almost half of the babys length.

You are almost at the end of your first trimester and while changes continue to occur quickly in your baby, they are happening at a slower rate in you. Your uterus has been growing with the fetus inside of it and is now almost big enough to fill your pelvis. Your uterus may be able to be felt in your lower abdomen, above the middle of your pubic bone. You are not able to feel the baby moving inside of you at this time. Some women think that they have felt fetal movementsnow, but it is either gas or a wrongly dated pregnancy. You might also be noticing changes in your hair, fingernails, or skin around this time. Some women notice an increase in hair growth and nail growth during pregnancy and others lose small amounts of hair. You are burning up calories at a faster rate than you did before you became pregnant! The amount of blood being pumped around your body will increase and you might feel warmer than usual.

This is the last week of the embryonic period. From now on, your baby will be called a fetus. As development continues, the fingernails appear this week. External genitalia are beginning to show distinguishing features and the development of male or female will be complete in three weeks. Theplacentas blood vessels increase to provide your baby with the nutrients and oxygen he needs for continued growth. The ears are gradually moving from the neck towards the sides of his head. Inside of the developing abdomen, the intestines are developing. Because the intestines are so large, some of them project into the umbilical cord and they will return to the abdomen within the next week or two.

At the size of a plum, your baby is now able to swallow. The urinary system functions. The baby swallows and urinates the amniotic fluid and the fluid is continually replaced. The baby is kicking but the mother cannot feel it yet. All vital organs are formed and, for the most part, function normally. From now on, they will grow in size and efficiency.

BIG NEWS

We are expecting! Our little bundle of joy is due March 30th, 2012! Yep, the day before my birthday! So to answer a few questions up front....

No, we were not planning this! We were planning on trying soon, as some of you know I was having health problem, part of that was effecting my menstrual cycles. In order to give our little one the best chance possible we were also preventing pregnancy until I got healthy again. Needless to say we were a little surprised when in August I took a pregnancy test and it came back positive, especially since I haven't had a cycle since March 2011.

Things in our lives have kind of fallen into place for this and it has strengthened our testimonies of your Heavenly Father's hand in all things. We are so excited.

No, we will not be finding out the gender of the baby. I don't think there is anything wrong with finding out, but I have always wanted a surprise! Plus I am afraid that if I know what we are having that I will buy way to much stuff.

Do we hope for a boy or a girl? Ok you all know this answer! We will be so happy with whatever gender of baby we are blessed with, but I would be lying if I don't secretly hope its a boy!

Cravings? Yes,  I had my doubts that this was a real thing, but I have been craving a few things, anything with tomatoes, especially v8.  Orange Juice and Pepperoncinis!

So I got to do all of the telling to our parents since Josh is out of town (lucky guy he gets to be gone for 1/2 of the pregnancy, I am sure time will seem to fly for him). Click the link below to watch how I told my family and their reactions. Not the best cinematography, but its pretty neat!
